The race continues: Mel Barker is headed to the November ballot
Based on unofficial results from the June 2 primary, the race for Madera County District 5 Supervisor is headed to a November 3 runoff — and Mel Barker will be on the ballot.
The campaign is grateful to every volunteer who knocked a door, planted a sign, or cast a vote in the primary. Between now and November, Mel will be working to earn the support of every community in the district — one conversation at a time, from the valley to the mountains.
Town-by-town outreach continues through the summer and fall. Election officials will certify the official primary results when the county canvass is complete.

Mel Barker announces candidacy for Madera County District 5 Supervisor
A U.S. Navy veteran, business leader and community builder, Mel's reputation for rolling up her sleeves and getting things done is well-known across Eastern Madera County. Whether it's mentoring youth, strengthening small businesses or standing up for working families, Mel leads with integrity, energy and an unwavering belief in the power of community.
"I believe in Madera County," Barker said. "I've dedicated my career to service — from the U.S. Navy to the business community, from youth programs to statewide policy advocacy. I know how special Madera County truly is. Now, I'm ready to serve our District 5 community as Supervisor — working hard, listening closely, and delivering real results."

Mel Barker is a candidate for Madera County District 5 Supervisor. A U.S. Navy veteran who served as a Quartermaster aboard USS Cape Cod (AD-43), she has called Eastern Madera County's mountain communities home for more than 40 years. Mel co-owns Summit Real Estate, a local sales and property management business, and in 2024 served as President of the California Association of REALTORS®, an organization of approximately 200,000 members. She has served on the board of the Mountain Area Youth Organization (MY Club) since 2011. Mel and her husband Jim live in District 5.
